Birding Tour in Ladakh
Ladakh is the ideal place to observe birds. And birding is a joyful experience here!
There is a great diversity of birds in the region: More than 300 species have been recorded. Many of them reside or breed at high-altitude wetlands, such as the lakes of Tso Moriri or Tso Kar or along the marshy lands of the Indus Valley, from Phey village to Upshi.
Many species of Finches, Robins, Redstarts, and the Hoppoe are common in summer. Resident water-birds, like the Brown-headed Gull, Brahminy Duck, and Bar-headed Goose are found in the Eastern part of the Indus valley. The Black-necked Crane is found nesting in Ladakh, too. A well known place to spot them is near the lake of Tso Kar. Other birds include Raven, Red-billed Chough, and the Chukar, a partridge. Common raptors are the Golden Eagle, and the Lammergeier that glide majestically through the sky.
